My heart goes out to those who lost their homes in the California fires. We had folk sleeping on floors, in the hall, and in our laundry room. We watched my friend Josh’s house blow up on the news. The song, It’s Fun To Own Your Own Business is a bit of a joke, really, because most of the time it’s terrifying managing the monster you created. Otherwise, it’s good advice for you and yourn. Moon Stars Sun
Moon Stars Sun is about the human experience of looking up at the sky and gazing at the infinity above us, wondering who we are, and where we belong in the universe. There is so much displacement of refugees and families fleeing their homes, fearing for their lives due to war and conflicts, who find themselves with their children homeless, with no roofs over their heads, and the only home they have is the vastness of the universe. -
Last Night Belfast
The Open Mic at the Bazz on Last Night Belfast was packed! Let’s open with Hazel de Mesa singing her song, Hooligan Heart. Next up we have a couple of songs from banjo and fiddle duo, Butter ‘n Honey. Finally we have the stage debut of three Groon songs, Tambourine, Bigger, and I Like Who I Am to bring the house down. A great way to start the year! 🎉

Son of a Groon
Reactions are varied. Turns out the Groon can be very polarizing. Some folk love you, and others just hate you. It’s a chemistry thing, like a lot of things in life. A couple years back I did a weird thing called Groon Radio, and it grew on me. My other folky music seems so serious compared to these Groon projects. Reviewers kept using the word poignant when reviewing my folk songs, so I liked the bizarro energy when I was just being silly rocking out with the Groon.
It was at this Groonish moment I realized much of my inspiration comes from cartoons and Muppets. I love the voice talents of Mel Blanc, Frank Oz and Jim Henson. I liked using some of the cartoony weird voices that I make, and to be honest, I’d rather be funny than poignant. I mean, I already have this sort of thing bouncing around inside my mind, why not record it so others can Groon out with me? It’s who I am and what I do! I am the Groon.
Hazel de Mesa once again adds her magic vocal tracks, bass guitar, and keyboards. Yay team!
